The Sovient Union surprised the world on April 12th, 1961 with the launch of Yuri Gagarin in Vostok 1. After its launch from the Baikonur cosmodrome on Kazakhstan, the spacecraft made one orbit and then re-entered. The Era of manned spaceflight had begun. (from forewood of our kit by Barri Davidoff).
